Annual Report 2022-2023
AIDE
Our AIDE team has undertaken three major initiatives to enhance our educational program and foster a culture of continuous learning. These activities include weekly in-person program delivery, launching a social book club for Youths, digitizing modules of our curriculum, and conducting school and community outreach programs.
To elevate the quality of our educational programs, we engaged professional consultants and facilitators to collaboratively develop a robust curriculum and facilitator guide mental health tool kit. This strategic initiative aimed to ensure the successful launch and delivery of the first cohort of our Finding Safety-in-Self program in February 2023.
Camp Power to Be
Our summer two-week literacy camp in Jamaica proved to be a resounding success, providing a transformative educational experience for enthusiastic students. The camp, designed to enhance literacy skills and foster a love for reading and writing, featured a dynamic curriculum and engaging activities tailored to the needs and interests of the participants.
Service Learning
The involvement of student volunteers at our literacy summer camp proved to be a pivotal factor in creating a vibrant and enriching educational experience for all participants. With their dedication, enthusiasm, and passion for education, these student volunteers played a crucial role in shaping a positive and supportive learning environment.
Events
We hosted two events, Restore & Renew to reconnect with partners and donors, and a recognition event for OTF (Ontario Trillium Foundation), one of our cooperate sponsors. We also participated in events including the Durham Black History Month Launch and the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).
