Program Description: Student volunteers work with professional volunteers and community partners to plan and implement all aspects of a summer literacy and leadership camp for children. This program has three components, which focus on different aspects of child and youth development with a literacy and leadership focus. The two components include: Literacy (6 to 11 years old), Leadership (12 to 16 years old specific to gender). Students gain various skills including lesson planning, classroom management, workshop and lesson facilitation skills throughout their volunteer placement. WHAT'S INCLUDED?

The Power to Be International charges a program fee which includes:

 

  • Shared accommodation in a modest hotel/guest house (student volunteers share with other students)

  • Most daily meals

  • Transportation to and from airport in host country 

  • Transportation to and from the project site daily

  • Curriculum and program-based excursions and seminars

  • The Power to Be's program orientation and training  

  • Program materials and uniform

  • Support and assistance while overseas

HOW TO APPLY

Students must apply to participate as a volunteer. We seek students who are interested in international development and committed to working with youth in various capacities.  All interested post-secondary students are encouraged to apply. Our volunteer and service learning programs fit a wide variety of interests and career paths.

 

FUNDRAISING OPTIONS

Volunteers interested in fundraising are provided with tools and strategies to actively engage in fundraising to support their participation in international programs.
