PROGRAMS
OUR FOCUS
PTBI's programs are focused on providing innovative ways to engage youth. Using the Theory of Change model and working with the communities we serve, our programs are designed to promote small changes and individual impact.
We provide service-learning opportunities for local post-secondary students to further develop their skills in an international capacity. Our international programs are located in the developing Caribbean.
Girls Empowerment Program - Durham, Ontario
The program is delivered through a series of workshops and seminars with an anti-oppression and social justice framework using social media. The program culminates with a series of local civic engagement projects which are plan and delivered by program participants.
This program was funded by the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
Service Learning Volunteer Program - GTA
Service-learning programs provide students with an opportunity to volunteer within our development programs in the Caribbean. The program allows students to gain a deeper understanding of the host country and engage with the local community, while volunteering. All of our service-learning programs are focused on a social justice theme.
LITERACY and LEADERSHIP PROGRAMS
Literacy and Leadership Camp - Negril, Jamaica

LUMIFI for Literacy
Lumifi for Literacy Reading Program - Westmoreland, Jamaica
The Power to Be International (PTBI) in partnership with the University of Toronto's Enactus seeks to provide technology and resources to primary and high schools in rural Western parishes of Jamaica. Through a pilot project, selected rural school was provided with a Lumifi device, which uses a router as a hub PTBI's Digital Reading Improvement Program (D-REP).
INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS
Community Build and Engagement Program - Jamaica
This program supports the communities in the Caribbean in fulfilling the goal of developing and promoting education. PTBI works with community partners to identify and complete various infrastructure projects which support education, children, and youth.
Our infrastructure builds include local youth volunteer programs that allow community youth to participate in the development of their own community. Youth work with partners, tradespeople and volunteers to assist in completing the projects.
